Frequently asked questions

Can I apply to a Korean university with no TOPIK score?
Yes. Every program on this page admits international students without a TOPIK score. Admission is normally on an English test such as IELTS or TOEFL, or on evidence that your previous education was taught in English. Each program links the admissions page stating this, so you can confirm it before you build your application around it.
Is a degree taught in English worth less in Korea?
The degree certificate does not distinguish between the language a course was taught in, and these programs are run by the same departments as their Korean-language counterparts. The practical difference is employment: many Korean employers interview in Korean and expect business-level fluency, so graduating without Korean narrows the jobs you can compete for in Korea, even with the same degree.
Do I need Korean to graduate even if I did not need it to apply?
Often yes, and applying without TOPIK does not mean graduating without it. A large number of Korean universities require TOPIK level 3 or 4 to graduate, a rule set out in the academic regulations rather than the admissions brochure. Where we have found that rule in a citable source, the program row records the level. Where we have not, the row says the requirement is not published rather than implying there is none.
Can I get a student visa without TOPIK?
The D-2 student visa does not itself require a TOPIK score. Language ability is checked by the university at admission, not by immigration at the visa stage, so an admission letter from an English-taught program is what carries the application. Some universities do ask for a language undertaking as part of the visa paperwork they prepare for you.
